Lake Wales Main Street Presents …the World Dance Bazaar!

Lake Wales values culture. You can see it in our Art Center, our Charter School programs, and the Little Theatre. Lake Wales Main Street will celebrate performing arts by presenting the 2nd Annual World Dance Bazaar in the Downtown Historic District Marketplace on March 14 from 2 pm to 8 pm.

So you think you can dance? After the shows, everyone is invited to join us on the dance floor from 6 pm to 8 pm for a street dance to the rockin’ tunes of DJ Parties by Robert. Throughout the event live music will be provided by the Scottish bagpipes and drums from Lake Wales High School, a Drum Circle, and the Hillcrest Steel Drum Band.

Sponsored by Center State Bank and Bunting, Tripp & Ingley CPA firm, the event will be an extravaganza of dance styles from around the world. Everyone is invited – it’s free to the public!

Our dancers are traveling here from Clearwater, Tampa, Orlando, Lakeland, Winter Haven, and some from the Lake Wales area. We’ll kick off with our own Scottish Dancers from Lake Wales High School followed by Ballroom, Brazilian, Ballet, Puerto Rican Bomba, Tango, Belly Dance, Fusion, Tribal, Clogging, Square Dance and more!

There will be vendors with jewelry, dance accessories, international merchandise and hats with hair for days when you want to look stylish but your hair won’t cooperate! Even the food vendors will lend an international flare with delicacies offered by the Crazy Cuban restaurant and China Chef.

Professional and semi-professional performers in wonderful costumes really put on a great show. So bring your lawn chairs and plan on spending the day.

See you there. Don’t forget your dance shoes….

Lake Wales Daycation

This month my family and I started our Daycation at Tres Jolie Café & Gift Shop at 207 East Park Avenue, an award winning restored 1923 building.

We dined on traditional French bistro fare and the best French onion soup in Central Florida. All prepared by Le Cordon Bleu (Paris) trained head Chef, Jessica Bray.
The beautiful décor let us imagine we were sitting street side in a quaint cafe in Paris. We peaked into another dining room decorated in the style of a romantic French Chateau. The gift shop had unusual, hand craft soaps, gift cards, jewelry and of course French pastries.
Next we strolled across the street to the recently restored historic Rhodesbilt Arcade at 230 East Park Avenue to visit the Artisan Guild of Lake Wales and James R. Hahn Productions.  Jim and Kay Hahn took us on a tour of the gallery, with one-of-a kind artwork in glass, metal, ceramic, exotic woods, botanicals, and photography. She showed us a custom-designed wine cellar by Doc Watters, modern art from Randall Cope, sculpture from David Price and Al Kriston, and the 3-D Animatronic, Toucan Harbor, a collaboration by James R. Hahn and Ron Proulx. Hahn painted a mural of a tropical sunset, and Proulx brought the scene to life with his 3-D wizardry, which includes lights, sound, and motion.

I highly recommend this Daycation, a delightful treat to the taste buds and the eyes.
